How to style a teak console
A console stops being furniture the day it becomes the place everything lands. It starts working again when the wood is allowed to show.

Most teak consoles in Indian apartments fail in the same hour: the evening everyone comes home. Keys, a courier packet, a spare mask, the house keys of a guest who has already left. By Sunday the table is a shelf with legs. The wood is still good. The arrangement is what went wrong.
Styling a console is not decorating. It is deciding what the first surface in the house is allowed to hold, and refusing the rest. The rule we use in the studio is small enough to remember with your shoes still on.
Three objects, then stop
One wood, one metal, one clock. That is the whole composition. A tray for the keys you actually use. A brass vessel — dried millet or a single stem, not a crowded bunch that hides the grain. And either a clock on the table or a clock on the wall. Not both, and not a clock plus a second hanging object fighting it.
The tray is the only object that is allowed to change every day. If the tray is full, something leaves the house or goes to a drawer. The vase and the clock do not take deliveries. When people treat the console as storage, they buy a bigger console. The larger top only delays the same habit.
Put the tallest thing off centre
Centre the tallest object and the table looks like a hotel. Shift it toward the side you enter from, and leave a long run of bare top on the other side. That empty length is the point of teak. Fingerprints belong there. Water rings do not — a glass needs the tray, not the wood.
